Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about downloading YouTube thumbnails with our free tool.
How does the thumbnail grabber work?
YouTube publishes each video's thumbnail at predictable image addresses. When you paste a link we read the video ID, build those addresses, preview the images and give you a direct download for each one.
Why is the Max HD (1280×720) thumbnail missing?
maxresdefault.jpg only exists if the uploader provided an image at least 1280×720. Older videos and some auto-generated thumbnails stop at 640×480, so the card shows as unavailable.
Do you support YouTube Shorts and youtu.be links?
Yes. Watch URLs, Shorts URLs, youtu.be short links, embed links, live links and bare 11-character video IDs all work.
Is there a download limit?
No. Grab as many thumbnails as you need, at any resolution, at no cost.
Do I need to install anything or sign up?
No installation, no extension and no account. Everything runs in your browser.
In what format are thumbnails downloaded?
Thumbnails download as JPG files exactly as YouTube stores them, so quality is identical to the source image.
Can I download private or unlisted video thumbnails?
Unlisted videos usually work if you have the link. Private and deleted videos do not expose thumbnails, so nothing will load.
Am I allowed to reuse a downloaded thumbnail?
The thumbnail belongs to the channel that uploaded it. Reference, review and commentary use is common, but ask the owner before republishing a thumbnail as your own.
Does the tool work on mobile?
Yes. The layout is fully responsive; on iOS you may need to long-press a preview image and choose Save to Photos.
